We are putting together a Scientific Maker event at the American Association for Advancement of Science (AAAS) Pacific Division meeting in San Diego June 16. Scientific makers tend to be sort of thinly spread in regular maker events, and poster sessions just aren't suited for showing DIY science and citizen science. So this will be something between a maker table and a poster session at a traditional scientific conference. There is also a symposium for papers on the topic.
The preliminary call for participation is now up as part of their newsletter, on page 15:

Space is pretty limited so jump on it soon! Participation is free but requires registering for the meeting, which is $70 for presenters and cheaper for some other constituencies. Instructions for applying are in the newsletter, or you can contact me via the Nonscriptum page.
The details are still a little dynamic and subject to change, but we are looking forward to seeing who is interested.

Pasadena Connect Week Oct. 24 talk on Citizen Science and Making
What does the emergence of “maker” technologies like 3D printing, Arduino, and wearable tech mean for people in Pasadena and beyond?

They have been early adopters themselves and have interviewed many more for their books and will give a view from the front line.

New Book - 3D Printing With MatterControl - expected out this week
Our new book, "3D Printing with MatterControl" is expected out this week, just in time for New York Makerfaire. It will be available shortly after that in the MatterHackers store, on Apress' site and on the usual major online booksellers.
When Rich Cameron and I teamed up on the earlier book Mastering 3D Printing a year ago there were very few screen shots and a lot of general direction on how to think about 3D printing and where to get the latest info. Now that MatterControl has emerged as an open source standard, it was cool to write the first book focused on it. We can now provide detailed instruction for both beginner and advanced features. We appreciate all our friends at MatterHackers who provided great advice and support (not to mention the software.) It is amazing to see how much 3D printing has evolved in one short year.
We are tentatively scheduled to be at the MatterHackers booth at Makerfaire New York Saturday/Sunday the 26/27 at 1 PM each day, and at the Apress both at 2 PM both days. We will post updates if that changes.
